Polystyrene Boxes For the Food Industry

Polystyrene (PS) plastic is one of the most important modern plastics. It is a solid and foam plastic that comes in many forms.

Expanded polystyrene foam is commonly known as styrofoam. It’s an excellent insulator and is also a cost-effective material for many other packaging applications. Styrene is chemically very stable, which can be both a good and bad thing.

EPS Chill Bins

In the food industry, EPS boxes are used to keep ready-to-eat foods and beverages cool during distribution and transport. They can also be used to store fresh fish, meats, and dairy products. The insulating properties of EPS make it an ideal choice for protecting delicate products during transportation.

EPS’ low thermal conductivity means it has good insulation properties. It is also lightweight, cheap to produce, and easy to mold into different shapes. This makes it an ideal material for cooler boxes.

Savebarn carries a wide range of EPS fish bins to meet your shipping and storage needs. Made from tuff moulded special food grade expanded polystyrene (EPS), our fish bins can help regulate the temperature of your shipment. They can be supplied with or without leakage holes, depending on your shipping requirements. The option with leakage holes is particularly useful for shipments using flake ice, as this allows the melted water to drain away. This will prevent the EPS box from becoming saturated and damaged.

EPS Fish Bins

The fish bins are made from tuff moulded special food grade EPS and help regulate the temperature of your seafood during transportation. This is especially important for fresh seafood that needs to be transported over long distances. They can be used alone or with ice to keep your fish fresh and safe. These bins are lightweight and have fitted lids. They are also recyclable.

The Kingfish Box is the perfect way to safely transport fish home from your local shop or off Trademe. These robust containers are made in New Zealand from EPS and feature high thermal insulation to ensure your fish arrives in peak condition. These boxes are also a great choice for storing and transporting temperature sensitive foods and drink.

EPS Food Boxes

EPS food boxes are made from tuff moulded food-grade expanded polystyrene (EPS) and provide high thermal insulation. The thick foam keeps chilled foods cold and protects them from damage during transit. They are also lightweight and have great impact resistance to reduce handling and shipping costs.

Unlike other packaging materials, EPS has the advantage of being 98% air. This makes it an extremely resource efficient material. EPS is recycled where facilities exist, with processes ranging from mechanical to chemical treatments. It can also be processed as part of energy from waste schemes.

EPS is widely accepted by council kerbside recycling, and can be recycled alongside plastics such as LDPE and HDPE. Unlike many other plastics, EPS can be melted and reformed into new products without losing its structural properties. This makes it a more sustainable alternative to paper and plastic. It’s important to remember that when replacing EPS with an alternative, it is critical that the replacement be sustainably sourced and compare favourably in a Life Cycle Assessment.

EPS Storage Boxes

EPS is a lightweight, strong and durable material that offers great thermal insulation properties. This makes it ideal for storing and transporting cold products. It can also be recycled to make new insulation products for buildings. Many Councils in New Zealand now accept waste EPS for recycling, but you should check with your local council to see what conditions apply.

Talley’s accounts manager Greg Buckett said the TempGuard cartons met Sealed Air’s goal of 100 per cent recyclable packaging solutions and were “100 times better” than polystyrene boxes Auckland, which break apart in landfill and pollute waterways. The cardboard boxes also worked on the hottest days, when previous products Buckett had trialled did not.

Chilltainers are a high-performance thermal packaging alternative to polystyrene/EPS and offer massive cost benefits to producers, wholesalers, retailers, households and customers. The patented technology is made from a combination of corrugated cardboard and an impermeable, reflective metallised polyester laminate coating. They have been tested in long truck and air shipments across Europe, US, Chile-Brazil, Australia and NZ, with results comparable to poly/EPS using data loggers.
